Vision Function Measurement
Scope and Place of Application
Vision function measurements are performed in mobile occupational health vehicles and/or fixed medical examination facilities (Art.12/1). Thanks to this flexibility, measurements can be carried out at a fixed medical examination center or performed directly at the workplace via a mobile vehicle.
The devices used in the measurements are medical devices compliant with the relevant standards that determine parameters such as intraocular pressure, refractive errors of the eye, corneal diameter and corneal thickness. Regardless of where the procedure is performed, it is essential that the devices comply with the relevant standards and produce accurate results.
Measured Vision Functions
Vision function measurement is based not on a single value but on multiple parameters relating to different functions of the eye. The measurements specified in the legislation and the devices performing them must comply with the relevant standards (Art.12/1).
| Measurement | Scope |
|---|---|
| Intraocular pressure | Determination of the pressure value inside the eyeball |
| Refractive error measurement | Identification of the eye’s refractive errors (refraction values) |
| Corneal diameter measurement | Measurement of the diameter value of the cornea |
| Corneal thickness measurement | Measurement of the thickness value of the cornea |
The devices performing these measurements are used in compliance with the relevant standards, and their calibrations are carried out at regular intervals by authorized services so that they produce accurate results.
Personnel, Calibration and Reporting
Vision function measurements are performed by medical examination personnel in the relevant field (Art.12/2). Calibration of the devices used in the measurement is carried out at regular intervals by authorized services, preserving the reliability of the measurement results.
Measurement results are evaluated by the workplace physician. Upon request, reporting of the measurements is carried out by an ophthalmology specialist (Art.12/3). In this way, the technical performance of the measurement, its evaluation and, where required, specialist physician reporting are conducted as a process based on separate areas of competence.
