Pulmonary Function Test (Spirometry)

Summary. The pulmonary function test (spirometry) is a medical examination performed in accordance with the relevant standard within the scope of employees' health surveillance. The test is administered by medical examination staff in the relevant branch, and the results are evaluated by the workplace physician of the workplace; the test may be performed at a fixed center or at the workplace using a mobile vehicle (Art.11).

How Spirometry Is Performed and Device Maintenance

Pulmonary function tests are performed in accordance with the relevant standard. Calibration of the spirometry device is carried out at regular intervals by authorized service providers. Technical and hygienic maintenance is performed on the equipment daily or weekly, depending on frequency of use, and these maintenance activities are recorded (Art.11/1).

Who Performs and Who Evaluates the Test

Pulmonary function tests are performed by medical examination staff in the relevant branch (Art.11/2). Test results are evaluated by the workplace physician of the workplace. Upon request, reporting of the test is done by a pulmonology specialist (Art.11/3).

Where the Test Is Performed

The pulmonary function test can be performed at a fixed center, or directly at the workplace using a mobile occupational health vehicle. This flexibility allows the test to be carried out where the employees are located (Art.11).
